Bedtime rituals
Parenting books like to stress the importance of a consistent, soothing bedtime ritual to settle your baby down for a good nights sleep. They usually suggest a nice warm bath to signal this transition from the excitement of the day to the peace of bedtime.

happy happy joy joy
Wyatt's been through so many milestones lately - crawling, teeth, sleep... well i don't dare say we're sleeping better, because i know better than to speak that aloud. so please, don't ask.
but more important than his sleep is just how simply happy Wyatt is. when he sees me in the morning, or sees dad come home from work, or sees us peep up from behind a scarf, his face lights up with such pure joy. he's also gotten super snuggly and giggles when you kiss him on the neck (which i think is a pretty amazing developmental achievement). at playgroup he observes the insanity around him and then gives whatever babe is near a sweet smile and poke. the other moms often ask me if he's ever unhappy (come see us at bedtime...) and every night when we put him to bed, gregg and i compare notes on just how cute he was that day. (i wish we had a better word for cute, because we're on the proverbial cute overload over here.) if Wyatt only knew how obsessed we are with him... or maybe he does know and that's why he's so darn happy.
i don't know if this video is related, except that it falls under the banner of "We think Wyatt is cute". watching it, one might think this is his first time seeing these toys. he's seen them 80 zillion times and they still make him so happy.
we could learn a lot from an almost 9 month old..

Down and Out
Poor little Wyatt has been feeling terrible since mid-day Saturday. He came down with some sort of cold/flu/viral thing that's just taken him out. His temp has ranged from 99 to 102, and, his cough makes him sound like some sort of rare rain forest frog. He is on the mend, but, despite all of this strange stuff he feels happening to him, he's in good spirits.

Update...
Well, Wyatt got his second tooth earlier this week. It's directly next to the other one, so, now he's like a "reverse gopher". They're really cute, and, he never let's us look at 'em.
In other news, he's crawling like crazy now too. We've got a great short video we'll put up in a bit, but, let's just say the warnings people had given us about "once they get it...look out" ring true! He's also standing pretty well unassisted, but, of course we're there to catch him...check him out!

It's lonely
Well...we've started the transition from co-sleeping to crib, and, I gotta say, it's lonely in the bed without the little dude. We figured the eventual progression from our bed to a crib was going to come at some point, just not so soon. It's been only one night, and, I already miss him jamming his hands into my mouth to feel my teeth, rolling back and forth between Amy & I, slurping while trying to suck on the wall, and, the sweet little giggling and laughing that lasts from 1am - 3am or sometimes 4am.
We'll be able to measure our success as parents in the future when it comes to his ability to cuddle after he crawls into bed with us.
So far, we've done pretty doggone good!
