Helpless

There is nothing more heart wrenching than a little baby that is dealing with a bit of discomfort. For the last 9.5 months, Amy has been responsible for everything for him. Food, waste management, and soft gentle rocking in her belly were all handled with the utmost of care.

Now, transition him to this new (and crazy) world with tons of new moving parts in his belly on his own, and, it's no picnic for him. For the first week or so things went super smooth with his little body. He'd eat, poop, sleep, and repeat, without much else of a little cry for some food. Now, as the days progress, and, his body parts start to work out their kinks, things start to derail a little bit. While his bouts of gas are quite short, they feel like an eternity. It's sad to think how scared he really is, simply because he has no idea what is going on with his body. We've been slowly learning the right combination of moves to soothe him, but, unfortunately, he has to do some of the work too. After about 4 minutes (which again, seems like 4 years), he'll rip a huge poop into his diaper and will be fine. It's those 4 minutes that make us extra sensitive to his needs, and, really try to love and console him as much as we can.

The hardest part isn't the sleepless nights, it's the telling yourself that his body is going through changes and that it's normal. All of the googling in the world isn't going to solve this problem, only love, attention, sympathy, and patience will. In due time, little man will be eating and digesting like a champ!

For now, we're just gonna love the farts out of him!

Oh, that's so hard! I remember those days too well. I was so concerned about Amelia but people kept telling me there's really nothing you can do but wait for them to grow out of it. And it's true; in a month or so he will have it all figured out and digestion will be a breeze. But I feel your pain, parents! I know it's tough to watch your little one suffer, even if briefly.
